Position/Job Title: Research Analyst
Location: Stafford, VA

Clearance Requirement: Secret

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Research Analyst with a strong background in scientific research and the ability to self-manage multiple projects. The ideal candidate will have education and/or experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related social sciences. This role supports research efforts within the FBIs Behavioral Analysis Units (BAUs), contributing to study design, data collection and analysis, literature reviews, and publication development.

Role & Responsibilities:

1. Assist with developing research questions, determining appropriate research methods and data analysis strategies to answer research questions, analyzing data, and providing feedback as part of a research team.
2. Assist with designing research methods and data analysis strategies to answer the research questions as a part of a research team and under leadership of the project's Primary Investigator (PI).
3. Contribute feedback throughout the lifespan of the research projects, including design, implementation, and presentation of results.
4. Update the PI, Unit Chief, and Research Coordinator routinely as to the status of the research projects in the BAUs to which contractor is assigned.
5. Collect data for assigned research projects using a variety of sources including, but not limited to, archival case materials, data sets, databases, and data collected from human research participants.
6. Build codebooks and edit and test codebooks as needed.
7. Collaborate with other FBI personnel (outside of BAU) and law enforcement agencies for the purpose of data collection and other research support, as needed.
8. Conduct literature reviews of peer-reviewed journals, academic publications, and lay sources to identify research that can be applied to operational needs.
9. Provide summaries of relevant literature in support of operations.
10. Assist and support Research Coordinators in data analysis/statistics, including cleaning data, restructuring data, assumptions testing, and statistical analysis.
11. Support PI in write-up of results for assigned research project(s), including writing and editing of reference guides, preliminary reports, and journal articles.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

1. Masters degree from an accredited university required.
2. Possess an active Secret clearance and ability to pass lifestyle polygraph.
3. Education and/or work experience in scientific research, including research design and methodology, data collection, entry, and analysis, and research publication.
4. Ability to carry out multiple research projects and related tasks, to evaluate information and make judgments in order to organize, plan, and prioritize work activities.
5. Demonstrate strong management, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to work independently.
6. Initiative and work ethic to conduct research independent of close supervision and daily guidance.
7. Interpersonal skills and work ethic to collaborate effectively and efficiently.
8. Proficiency in data entry and statistical software programs, such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS, and other related programs.
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent critical thinking skills.
10. Education and/or work experience related to law enforcement, criminal justice, or another related field preferred.
11. Education and/or work experience in the social sciences of sociology, psychology, political science, and/or criminology preferred.
