Senior Hydrogeologist

Position Summary:
Our client is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to lead complex environmental site investigation and remediation projects across multiple locations. In this high-impact role, you will guide multidisciplinary teams through the design and execution of advanced hydrogeologic investigations, contaminant fate and transport modeling, and groundwater remediation strategies. This position involves managing technical teams, regulatory interface, and strategic client engagement, while contributing subject matter expertise to support environmental compliance, litigation, and long-term site management. Ideal candidates will bring 15–20 years of experience in hydrogeology or a related field, hold a P.G. or P.E. license, and demonstrate mastery of groundwater modeling, environmental restoration technologies, and regulatory frameworks such as CERCLA and RCRA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, manage, and execute complex environmental site investigations, including planning and implementing drilling programs, geophysical logging, aquifer testing, media sampling, and installation of monitoring/recovery wells.
  • Lead project teams in developing conceptual site models (CSMs) and conducting contaminant fate and transport evaluations.
  • Oversee field operations to ensure compliance with health and safety standards, subcontractor coordination, and efficient scheduling.
  • Interpret hydrogeologic data, synthesizing field and analytical results to support technical reports, risk assessments, remedial designs, and regulatory decisions.
  • Apply advanced groundwater flow and transport modeling tools to support site characterization and remediation or optimization strategies.
  • Write and review technical documentation including work plans, sampling plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and reports.
  • Provide mentorship and quality control reviews for junior staff; contribute to internal knowledge transfer and professional development.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in client and regulatory agency interactions, offering strategic guidance, delivering presentations, and supporting negotiations.
  • Perform optimization studies for both passive and active remedial alternatives, including long-term monitoring (LTM) programs.
  • Construct and calibrate analytical and numerical models for soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and indoor air (attenuation).
  • Provide expert support for litigation, including discovery, affidavits, depositions, and trial testimony.
  • Conduct sequence stratigraphy evaluations and report findings.
  • Perform statistical evaluations, background studies, and related environmental reporting.
  • Travel may be required up to 30%, including overnight trips.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Geology, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 15–20 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within environmental consulting.
  • Licensed Professional Geologist (P.G.) or Professional Engineer (P.E.) (obtained by exam).
  • Strong expertise in hydrogeologic site characterization, groundwater modeling, and remediation/remedy optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory programs including CERCLA, RCRA, and applicable state-specific programs.
  • Proven leadership in managing projects and teams, mentoring junior professionals, and juggling multiple priorities.
  • Advanced technical writing and data analysis skills, including preparation of charts, maps, tables, and figures.
  • Experience with hydrogeologic modeling software such as MODFLOW, MT3D, VISTAS, EVS, and others.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Valid 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
