Job Description



AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic Traffic team in Denver, Colorado .

In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering complex traffic and transportation projects across Colorado and the surrounding regions. You will collaborate with clients, internal stakeholders, and external partners to plan, design, and manage the successful execution of a wide array of civil and traffic engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for civil engineering tasks on traffic-related projects, including corridor studies, traffic modeling, ITS design, and roadway geometric design.
  • Ability to perform traffic design operational and safety analysis.
  • Mentor a team of civil and traffic engineers, planners, and technicians on both local and regional projects.
  • Perform and oversee design development using platforms such as MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Synchro, and VISSIM.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables; ensure high-quality outcomes aligned with client expectations.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews on traffic studies, construction documents, and design packages.
  • Coordinate closely with clients including CDOT, RTD, local municipalities, and private partners; represent AECOM at stakeholder meetings and public engagements.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing, client relationship development, and pursuit strategy planning.
  • Promote innovation, sustainability, and equity in the delivery of civil and traffic engineering solutions.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Colorado or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Preferred

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Experience with DOT and other local agency design standards in Colorado preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering transportation projects from planning through design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including project management and staff supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership with both project and people management responsibilities, preferred
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM).
  • Experience with safety analysis.
  • Active participation in professional associations (e.g., ITE, ASCE).
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, equity, and resilience in infrastructure delivery.
  • RSP/PTOE Certification desired.
